Wet dog, soggy towels, muddy hallway — every dog owner knows the routine. A drying robe fixes it. Less mess, fewer zoomies, and a warm, cosy dog at the end of it.

About Drying Robes

A drying robe is the simplest upgrade you can make to your dog's post-bath and post-walk routine. Instead of chasing a wet, wriggling dog with a flat towel, you wrap them once and let the fabric do the work. PupClub's drying robes are cut from super-absorbent microfibre that pulls water out of the coat far faster than a standard towel — and keeps your dog warm while it does. They fasten quickly with large velcro panels at the neck and belly, so there's no struggling, no buckles and no fuss. They're built for real life: bath time, muddy field walks, beach days and swims. If your dog does the post-bath zoomies, a robe calms the whole thing down.

The Drying Robe Range

Our drying robe range covers every kind of wet-dog moment. The core style is the classic towelling robe — a full-body microfibre wrap that fastens at the neck and belly, ideal for after baths and rainy walks. It's the everyday workhorse: quick to put on, quick to absorb, easy to wash. Across the range you'll find different sizes to fit everything from small breeds to large, and finishes designed to be hard-wearing through repeated muddy use. Every robe shares the same essentials — high-absorbency microfibre, secure velcro fastening at two points, and a cut that covers the back, chest and belly where dogs hold the most water. Whether your dog is a daily swimmer, a winter mud-magnet or just a reluctant bather, there's a robe sized for them. Pair a robe with one of our fleece coats for cold-weather walks, or a dog blanket for the car ride home.

How to Choose a Drying Robe

Choosing the right drying robe comes down to three things: size, absorbency and how your dog reacts to being handled.

Size first. A drying robe should cover your dog from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, with the belly panel reaching far enough to wrap underneath. Measure your dog's back length along the spine — that's the key number. A robe that's too short leaves wet patches; one that's too long drags and gets muddy. Check the size guide below, and if your dog is between sizes, size up.

Absorbency and weight. Microfibre is the material to look for — it holds many times its weight in water and wrings out easily. A heavier microfibre dries a thick double coat faster; a lighter one is easier for small breeds to wear comfortably.

Fastening and temperament. Velcro fastenings are the quickest to use and the easiest on an impatient dog — no buckles to thread while your dog shakes. If your dog dislikes things going over their head, the two-point neck-and-belly velcro design means the robe simply wraps on. For anxious dogs, choose a robe you can fasten in seconds, because speed is what keeps the experience calm. Get those three right and the robe becomes the easiest part of bath day.

Size Guide

Size Back Length (excluding hood) Suggested Breeds
XS 38 cm

toy breeds, Shih Tzu, Maltese

S 44cm Cavapoo, Cockapoo, Spaniels
M 55cm Staffies, Collies, Bulldogs
L 62cm Labrador, Retriever, Dalmations

Measure your dog's back length along the spine, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, and match it to the chart above. The robe should cover that full length with the belly panel wrapping underneath. If your dog falls between two sizes, size up.

Types of Drying Robe

Drying robes come in several styles — here's what to know:

  • Classic towelling robe — full-body microfibre wrap with neck and belly velcro; the all-rounder for baths and wet walks.
  • Lightweight robe — thinner microfibre, easiest for small and toy breeds to wear comfortably.
  • Heavyweight robe — denser fabric that pulls water out of thick double coats faster.
  • Hooded robe — adds head and ear coverage for dogs that get soaked all over.
  • Short-back robe — a cut suited to long-bodied breeds where a standard robe would over-reach.
  • High-visibility robe — brighter fabric for wet, low-light winter walks.

Drying Robe vs Dog Towel

The obvious alternative to a drying robe is a regular towel — so is a robe worth it? In practice, yes, for most dogs. A flat towel only dries the part you're actively rubbing, and it needs both hands and a cooperative dog. A drying robe wraps the whole body at once and keeps working while your dog walks around, so the coat dries evenly and you get your hands back. It also traps warmth, which a towel doesn't — important for small breeds and older dogs that chill quickly after a bath. A towel still has its place for a quick paw-wipe or a light shower, and it's cheaper. But if your dog swims, walks in the rain, or baths regularly, a robe turns a two-person wrestling match into a ten-second job — and most owners find it pays for itself within a few wet weeks.

Drying Robes by Dog Size

Small and toy breeds (Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Pomeranians) chill fast once wet, so a robe matters most here — it keeps body heat in while the coat dries. Choose a lighter microfibre so the robe isn't bulky on a small frame, and check the belly panel isn't so deep it drags.

Small-to-medium breeds (Cavapoos, Dachshunds, Pugs, Jack Russells) suit the classic towelling robe well. For long-bodied dogs like Dachshunds, size on back length rather than weight — a robe sized on length will fit far better.

Medium breeds (Cockapoos, Spaniels, Border Collies) often have thick or feathery coats that hold a lot of water, so a robe earns its keep after every wet walk. A medium-weight microfibre clears that kind of coat faster.

Large breeds (Labradors, Retrievers, German Shepherds) carry the most water of all and benefit from a heavyweight robe with full back-and-belly coverage. It's also the size group where a robe saves the most towels and the most floor-mopping.

Giant and long-coated breeds need maximum coverage and absorbency — measure carefully along the back, and size up if in doubt, since a robe that stops short leaves a cold, wet rear end.

Pairs Well With

A drying robe is one part of a wet-weather kit. Once your dog is dry, a fleece coat keeps them warm for the walk home or the next outing, especially in winter. A dog blanket protects the car seat and gives a cosy spot to settle while the coat finishes drying. And since bath-day mud usually starts on the walk, our dog walking accessories help keep the rest of the routine tidy. Building a small kit — robe, coat, blanket — turns wet-dog season from a chore into a system.

Why PupClub Couture

At PupClub Couture we design for the messy, real-life moments as carefully as the pretty ones. Our drying robes use genuinely high-absorbency microfibre — not thin towelling that just moves water around — and large, secure velcro panels that survive repeated washing and muddy use. Every robe is cut to cover the back, chest and belly properly, because a robe that misses those areas isn't doing its job. We design in the UK, ship fast, and keep returns simple. If you're not sure which size fits your dog, our team will happily help you measure — because a well-fitted robe is the difference between a dry dog and a damp one.

Drying Robe FAQs

What is a dog drying robe?
A dog drying robe is a wearable, super-absorbent microfibre wrap that dries your dog after baths, swims and wet walks. It fastens around the neck and belly with velcro, so it stays on while your dog moves around and the coat dries evenly.
How does a drying robe work?
The microfibre fabric draws water out of your dog's coat by contact, far faster than a flat towel. You wrap the robe on, fasten the velcro at the neck and belly, and let it work for 15–30 minutes while your dog relaxes. It also traps body heat, keeping your dog warm as they dry.
What size drying robe does my dog need?
Measure your dog's back length along the spine, from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, and match it to the size guide above. The robe should cover that full length with the belly panel wrapping underneath. If your dog is between sizes, size up.
Is a drying robe better than a towel?
For most dogs, yes. A towel only dries where you're actively rubbing and needs both hands; a robe wraps the whole body and keeps drying hands-free. A robe also traps warmth, which matters for small or older dogs. A towel is still handy for quick paw-wipes.
Can I use a drying robe after swimming?
Yes — a drying robe is ideal after swimming. It pulls water from the coat quickly, keeps your dog warm on the way home, and protects your car seat from a soaked dog. Many owners keep a robe in the car specifically for post-swim and beach days.
How do I wash a dog drying robe?
Most microfibre drying robes are machine washable — check the care label on your robe. Wash on a cool cycle without fabric softener, since softener reduces absorbency, and air-dry. Avoid high heat, which can affect the velcro and the fabric over time.
Will my dog tolerate wearing a drying robe?
Most dogs settle quickly because the robe is soft, warm and fastens without going over the head. The two-point velcro design lets you wrap it on in seconds, which keeps anxious dogs calm. Introduce it gently the first time with a treat, and most dogs come to associate it with cosy post-bath time.
Can a drying robe be used as a warm coat?
A drying robe's main job is absorbing water, not insulation, so it isn't a substitute for a proper coat. Once your dog is dry, switch to a fleece or winter coat for warmth on a walk. The robe keeps your dog warm while drying, which is different from all-day outdoor wear.
